Let me start this off by saying that I absolutely LOVE the Battlefield series. It’s probably my 2nd favorite game series behind Fallout, and I’ve been playing it since Battlefield 2: Modern Combat came out for the Xbox in 2006.
That being said, after spending almost a week playing Battlefield 2042 (I got early access on Nov. 12th because I pre-ordered the ultimate edition like an absolute idiot), I can say without hesitation that this game should not have been released for another few months.
It. Is. Awful.
The servers are garbage and constantly lag or disconnect, framerates drop drastically and the game becomes unplayable without a restart, the random bullet spread is terrible (particularly with assault rifles unless you’re in close combat), and the spawns are awful — the other night I was spawn killed 3 times by a tank and once by a helicopter in a span of about 30 seconds, all of which happened on different spawn points.
I have no idea what EA and/or DICE were thinking when they went ahead with this release. The beta was a disaster, but that was written off as being a months-old build (Seriously? Who the hell releases a months-old build to their biggest fans/people that pre-ordered their game 🤦♂️). The actual release is better than the beta was, but not by a whole lot. There are still SO MANY problems that I can’t understand how this wasn’t delayed again.
My only hope for this game right now is that the rumored patch release dates are actually accurate and they bring major changes and fixes.
As of now, I can’t recommend this game. In fact, unless you enjoy being constantly annoyed and irritated at a game, I suggest you avoid it completely until the existing issues are worked out. Hopefully that’ll be soon, because as a fan of this series, I’m extremely disappointed that this is where we’re at right now.
